26 And He was saying, “The kingdom of God is like a man who casts seed upon the soil; 27 and he goes to bed at night and gets up by day, and the seed sprouts and grows—how, he himself does not know. 28 The soil produces crops by itself; first the blade, then the head, then the mature grain in the head. 29 But when the crop permits, he immediately puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” Mark 4:26-29
Be patient and confident, the Kingdom will come, “on earth as it is in Heaven” (Matt 6:9-13). Immanuel (God with us) will always win. Even today with all that we know and all that has been uncovered by the scientific world, all the mysteries of life have not been solved by the most educated scientists. We’re not 100% sure exactly what happens to a seed after it is planted in its desired medium that makes it become a plant. Even the most renowned or accomplished biologist cannot look at a seed and tell you exactly when after planting it will sprout or what exactly it will look like when it does sprout. There are many things only God knows.
This parable, a story, tells us that the Kingdom is like the seed that requires God’s hand to come forth and bear fruit. It also tells us that we must do our “job description” at times before God will do His. We must cast the seed, tend to it as it grows and once it has become ripe we can harvest it. God is in total charge of the harvest. He will make the plant grow and knows exactly when it is time for His harvest.
We also learn from this parable not to focus on the circumstances at hand, making assumptions based on what we see, but rather, we are to trust God because He knows the exact time of the harvest. If we look at our circumstances we may get discouraged. Our best course of action; trusting in God, believing in His sovereignty, knowing that He is always working His good purposes in each and every situation. He knows exactly how the seed makes a plant because He is Creator. He will win every time.
We must be patient and confident – His Kingdom will come!
